You are invited to join the Resident Action Project (RAP) and the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance (WLIHA) during the national housing week of action called "Our Homes, Our Voices" from May 1-8 organized by the National Low Income Housing Coalition.


Events will be happening in Bellingham, Centralia, Chehalis, South King County, Seattle, Snohomish County, Spokane and Yakima - all the details will be listed below.  In all, there are 13 different opportunities to get involved and raise your voice for housing justice!

The week will kick off a day early on April 30 from 7:30-9:00 a.m. with a "Power Panel" sponsored by the Washington Low Income Housing Alliance. "Leading the Charge for Housing Justice" will feature housing champions including Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal, State Senator Rebecca Saldaña, State Representative Nicole Macri and Seattle City Councilwoman Teresa Mosqueda.

Later that day, there will be a webinar featuring National Low Income Housing Coalition Federal Policy Analyst Elayne Weiss from Noon – 1:00 p.m., go to https://register.gotowebinar.com/register/1748834107102818563?eType=EmailBlastContent&eId=0401d6c5-11b4-4c20-b111-7f7b28e1f1a4  to register. In the evening, WLIHA Executive Director Rachael Myers will be on a panel on the affordable housing crisis for Horizon House residents.

People will also have the opportunity to join two trainings led by staff members from the Center for Community Change. Katy Heins will be leading a "Why RAP?" workshop on Tuesday May 1 from Noon-1:30 [info about how to join coming soon] and Michael Anderson will be offering a messaging training via conference call on Wednesday May 2 from 6:00-7:00 at 866-792-9154 and the code 741-789-6549#.

RAP Events Across the State:

Bellingham: RAP leaders will be registering voters in front of the federal courthouse in downtown Bellingham on Friday, May 4 starting at 4:00 pm. For more information or to RSVP contact Paul Moore at paul@98225.org.

Centralia: RAP leaders will be holding two events during the week of action in Centralia. There will be a voter registration drive from 10:00-2:00 pm at "The Gathering" in Centralia (408 W. Main St.). The big finale for the week will be a fair in Riverside Park on Saturday, May 5 from 10:00 – 2:00. The fair is being organized by friends in the community without a home and will have games for children, karaoke, face painting and balloon animals for everyone in the community. South King County: RAP leaders will be facilitating a community speak out for housing justice on Monday, May 7 from 6:00-7:30 p.m. at Highline College. For more information or to RSVP contact Mr. B at bretrandharrell@live.com.

Snohomish County: RAP leaders will be hosting an "Our Homes, Our Voices, Our Stories" event On Monday, May 7 from 2:30-4:30 at the Lynnwood Library (19200 44th Ave. W.). They will be doing voter registration, postcard/letter writing to lawmakers and messaging photos of people who are experiencing housing instability to be shared on social media. Spokane: Socks for the Homeless and RAP leaders will be signing postcards and writing letters to their Senators and Representatives urging them to address housing and homelessness issues. The event will be held on Sunday, May 6 from 11:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m. at University Mercantile (1514 E. Sprague Ave. in Spokane).
