On July 6th, citizens of Lac-Megantic will gather for the solemn one year anniversary of the tragic oil train derailment that decimated their community, senselessly ending 47 lives. Yet instead of being able to peacefully honor the memory of those lives lost, residents are still fighting to keep the oil industry from resuming oil by rail shipments through their still-recovering town.

Friends,
On July 6th, 2013, a runaway train carrying oil from North Dakota derailed and exploded, leveling the downtown area of Lac-Mégantic in Quebec and taking 47 lives.
Since then, big oil has sent more oil trains rolling through communities across North America, with reckless disregard for safety and the climate -- including in Bellingham.
On July 6th, folks in Bellingham will join with dozens of other communities across North America to mark the anniversary of the Lac-Mégantic disaster and call for a stop to oil trains that threaten our communities and climate.
Can you be there on July 6th at 2:00 PM to demand safe railroads and a safe climate? Click here to RSVP: https://actionnetwork.org/events/honoring-the-victims-of-lac-megantic-2
Here are the details:
Actions in solidarity with Lac-Mégantic will be taking place from coast to coast as the climate movement steps up our resistance to oil projects of all kinds. The only safe oil is the oil that stays under ground, and we will do what it takes to keep it there.
Hope you can make it -- this is a fight that needs you.
