National Anti-Vivisection Society - TAKE ACTION THURSDAY
This week's Take Action Thursday celebrates your state's law that protects companion animals left unattended in cars.

Hundreds of animals die from heat exhaustion each summer when they are left alone in parked cars. Even on a temperate day with the windows rolled down, the inside of a car can become as hot as an oven in a matter of minutes—and the animals have no way of getting out.
Twenty-nine states, including yours, have already passed laws protecting companion animals from these dangerous conditions, providing a mechanism to free unattended animals from overheating cars.
Click on your state to read the law or laws that protect pets from harm when left unattended in a locked vehicle:
AZ - Animal Confinement, AZ - Immunity, CA - Animal Confinement, CA – Immunity, CO – Immunity, CO – Criminal Justification, DE, FL, IL, IN, KS, LA, MA, MD, ME, MN, NC, ND, NH, NJ, NV, NY, OH, OR, RI, SD, TN, VA, VT – Animal Confinement, VT - Immunity, WA, WI and WV
What can you do to help prevent companion animals from dying in a vehicle during the summer?
  • Leave your dog or cat at home on a hot day;
  • If you see an animal locked in a hot car in distress, call a first responder to help;
  • Spread the word by mentioning to your friends and family the dangers of leaving your pet in an overheating vehicle; and
  • If you do travel with your pet, make sure you do not leave them unattended in the car—and always carry water to prevent dehydration.
