We are kicking off the new year with exciting classes and events about eliminating plastic waste, conserving water, transitioning to renewable energy, and more!
Berkeley's groundbreaking Single Use Foodware and Litter Reduction Ordinance begins phase 2 this month, which requires prepare food vendors:
- ensure all disposable foodware and accessory items be certified compostable and free of intentionally added fluorinated chemicals.
- begin charging $0.25 for disposable cups.
Having helped steward this ordinance, we are excited to see the positive impact it will have on reducing plastic waste in our city. Check out this 3-minute video on this movement that is gaining momentum across the nation, and which features Ecology Center's Executive Director Martin Bourque:
Why Recycling Is NOT ENOUGH & How Communities Are Changing the Game
